H1N1 Information
Dear Parents,
As you know, flu can be easily spread from person to person. Therefore we are taking steps to reduce the spread of flu in High Island School.
We are working closely with the Texas Education Agency, the State Department of Health, and Galveston County Department of Public Health to monitor flu conditions and make decisions about the best steps to take concerning school.
We will keep you updated with new information as it becomes available.
We will keep our school functioning as usual. We have added new dispensers in the elementary classrooms, restrooms, and cafeteria. These dispensers are designed to give each student a hand sanitizer that will combat the flu germs. Our custodial staff has increased the sanitizing of each classroom and office area by using an aerosol dispenser that diffuses ingredients to kill the H1N1 flu germs.
Here are some things you can do to help us:
* Remind your child to wash their hands often with soap and water or a hand
sanitizer.
* Remind your child not to share personal items such as food, drinks or
utensils.
* Remind you child to cover their coughs and sneezes with a tissue.
* Please keep your child home if he or she has flu-like symptoms and
consult your doctor – fever of 100 degrees F or higher, sore throat or cough.
Other symptoms may be runny or stuffy nose, headache, body aches, chills,
or a feeling of extreme tiredness.
At this time there are no confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu in High Island School, but there are flu-like symptoms reported by some of our children. We will notify you of any additional changes to protect the health of our children. Thank you for your continued support in our effort to keep our children healthy.
Sincerely,
Paula A. Quick, Superintendent of Schools |
